GAY PRIDE WEEKEND

This is the weekend that the gay community and our friends, family, and supporters celebrate how far we have come in the struggle for equal rights and how very very close we are to full equality under the Constitution. This time of year is chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City in 1969. The gay community had finally had enough of being treated horribly with unwarranted arrests, harassment, and beatings. Ever since we worked toward equality. Each big step, like the Stonewall Riots, to the smaller ones like me and my partner's aggressive gay activism on a conservative college campus in the mid-90s have contributed to the ultimate goal of full equality which I think is only a few years(if that) away. I salute all the brave gay men and women who have tirelessly pursued this cause ahead of me, those who are currently working hard, and the younger activists who are just getting started.
