Bidding 2009 Farewell

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me and my artistic endeavors in 2009. It was leagues more successful than 2008 and I know 2010 will be 10X better than 2009. There will be big changes in store for my blog and career direction in 2010, so keep reading. I hope everyone out there has an exciting, safe, and successful 2010! Life Life Love.

I can feel it already!

Cloudy Day

What are cloudy days good for? Making art. This week should be very busy for me. I will be wrapping up my bird cubes, finalizing designs for the cards I will be selling at the Winter Street Holiday Art Market on November 20th-21st. I also have some very close friends coming in on Tuesday from L.A. and staying the whole week with us. Also, I should be launching my youtube page soon. I have a time-lapsed video of the making of one of the cubes.

For the Birds

I am still cranking out the cubes. I thought that since most of the bird images on my cubes are based on pigeons that I would share my thoughts on pigeons and why I am so attracted to them.

Pigeons serve as an excellent metaphor for humanity. They collect in large numbers at centers of consumable resources, they are largely individualistic and leave huge messes as evidence of their residency. However, if you just take the time to observe the pigeons and accept them for what they are, their beauty becomes evident.

Busy with my bird cubes project

Further progress on new piece

I am also deligently working on a total re-write of my artist's
statement. It will be less academic and sterile and more from the
heart - the source of my passion.

Late entry-it was a busy Tuesday

Tuesday, I was preoccupied by gathering everything together required for our new workout program(P90X). I did, however, gessoed a new panel to start working on tomorrow, sanded down 12 new cubes, and thought of another great series concept. There is also some potentially exciting news. I was contacted by a writer for a local magazine and may be interviewed/covered in their November issue. *FINGERS CROSSED*

A New Beginning(Again)

First and foremost I would like to start by saying thank you to everyone who has supported me in the past and those who support me presently. This entry will begin a new direction for me in my career. Looking back, my posts have been rather short and impersonal and I've sort of used it as a 'show-and-tell' without really giving any backstory on the work itself. Going forward I will be updating much more regularly and talking at length about each new piece I produce.
Also, other changes will include me working more in series. Some working ideas for future series include: My friends(as vampires), Dancer series, my ongoing fascination with pigeons, and I will be creating more cubes. I've also been working out an idea in my head for a 'zine' series. I also have several upcoming shows: 1. Gallery Lazzara's anniversary group show with two openings: October 8th 7-10PM and October 9th 6-9PM. I will also have a booth at the W.H.A.M(Winter Holiday Art Market) benefitting Spacetaker.org on November 20-21st at Winters Street Studios in the Washington Ave. corridor area. I would also like to start a come and go monthly brunch(maybe in October) as a time to showcase my new work and to have fun and socialize with all of my friends.
A note on the change: I have been researching artists who have taken a more unconventional route to success outside of the traditional art world system. I have found a nice number who have been successful with this approach and some who have been VERY successful with this approach. Those who know me, know that I am short on patience with some aspects of life-success being one. I constantly look at gallery system established artists and admire their work and creativity, etc. The one problem I have is that they mostly all reach that level of success around 45 or 50+. I find this unacceptable. I can't think of another profession besides art where this is acceptable or desirable. I have decided that I am going to strike off in a different directions like the artists I have researched. I am going to learn from their successes and their mistakes. I have the talent and the ambition to get myself where I want to be faster than the traditional system will allow. This is going to be an adventure and I want to share it with all of you.

Thank you for reading

I'm back!

I'm getting very busy now, so I will post on a more regular basis.  Tomorrow I will be installing 2-3 of my awesome paintings in Dr. Crofoot's office at 3701 Kirby Drive Suite 1230 in Houston, TX.  I'm also still hard at work on my series for Houston's 2009 Gay Pride festivities.  I will have a booth in the artist section of the festival on Saturday June 27th.  I will have small original paintings available for sale, limited edition 16x20 posters, and the originals from which the posters were made available matted(and possibly framed).  Mark it on the calendar and come out to see Chip and I and enjoy the other festivities.

Interesting by-product

Working hard in a new series for Houston Gay Pride Festival. I liked
the results of multiple tracings so much that I'm keeping it.
